Question - will the access database also be updated with the MDS changes
The MDS team have asked that when the changes have been implemented will the facility to import 'Save XML File for importing into HSCIC's MS Access Conversion Tool' also be updated?
Thanks Alistair for the update. We don't use NHS Digital's conversion tool and I prefer to continue using the Euroking extract due to it's continued reliability. Will be glad to see the move away from Open Exeter though.
The conversion tool is an access database provided by NHS Digital, it's not something developed or supported by us.
The MDS extract run in Stats in Lists and be exported as a flat file which can be uploaded directly to NHS Digital (the Exeter Portal at present) or can be exported in a different file format to support the NHS Digital Conversion Tool, if the Trust is currently using it. There's no need for a Trust to use it, the flat file export of the MDS report will be sufficient.
I only mentioned it because you cited it in your original question "will the facility to import 'Save XML File for importing into HSCIC's MS Access Conversion Tool' also be updated?"
Hope this helps and hasn't made things too complicated to follow.
We run the MDS report from E3, Stats and Lists and then it is exported, it is this element that I think our MDS team want to know if that is also being updated. Is this the conversion tool that you mean? If so, I use it all the time when I need the stats/lists that can be produced on E3, otherwise I use stats builder.
Hi Kelly. Yes - effectively what happens is the extract is generated from E3 based on the definitions provided by NHS Digital. So we are currently changing the extract to meet the new extract format. Once complete it can be extracted in XML format (to be uploaded directly into the portal) or in the supporting format for the NHS Digital Conversion tool if necessary.
Does Pennine make use of the conversion tool at the moment? I didn't think many EuroKing Trusts use it.

That's great I can let our MDS team know. Can I just check that if this was the conversion tool you mentioned in your earlier comment?
The MDS report in Stats and Lists will be updated with the new configuration for MDS2.
The export of this report will also reflect the new changes.
